Home Who we are What we do Short breaks Staff Area Recruitment

Riverside is a beautiful detached four bedroom character cottage, situated in a beautiful Somerset Village – Combwich.

However it is also a property designed to provide a comfortable, safe and robust environment for adults and children with learning disabilities and complex needs to enjoy a short break away, or a longer holiday.

The aim of Riverside is to provide an individualised respite service, rather than somewhere you have to “fit in with”. For your time there, no matter how long or how short, it should become your home from home - somewhere you can feel safe and relaxed.

Riverside is available to rent on its own, or you can have qualified and trained support workers to help you, thus ensuring you are properly able to enjoy your break away. The support is flexible around your own individual needs, and we can provide everything for you to have a relaxing stay. This includes food (catering for any special dietary requirements),  activity equipment and transport. However, if you prefer, you can bring your own food, use your own car, and decide what activities you want to do in the cottage. Your support hours can be anything from 2 hours to 24 hours. You can have staff sleeping at the house with you or if you need someone awake then this can be arranged too.

If you are already supported by Crimson Hill Support then you would be helped on your holiday by people you already know, and trust. If you don't know us, but want some help, then prior to your holiday we would meet you, so we know your needs, and find the right staff to support you. If you just want to rent the cottage, and take your current supporters to stay with you then this is ok as well.

If you have difficulty getting to Riverside, then we can arrange to collect you and take you home after the stay.

The property is very spacious, with a large lounge and conservatory downstairs. Upstairs there is another quiet lounge. This enables people to have their own space or somewhere quiet to go to.  The kitchen is fully accessible as well, but as there are risks for some people being in the kitchen, the access can be limited if necessary.

If you have mobility issues then there is a downstairs bedroom, and a wet room to make things easier for you. There is a hoist and hydraulic bed as well, to make moving around as safe and as simple as possible.

The garden is enclosed, with decking and grassy areas. If the weather is sunny you can even have a BBQ (which can also be safely locked away after use).

In the village you can walk to the local general stores, visit the pub, or enjoy the freedom of walking along the wide open paths by the river. The market town of Bridgwater is a short drive away, and Cannington village just along the road has further shops and pubs. The coast road leads to Minehead where there are lots of things to do, or you can head west towards Taunton.
